lyrics

The suburb I grew up in

© Danny McDonald 2018

Well the jacaranda’s blooming
And the fig tree’s dropping fruit
The weatherboards are wearing
And the letterbox looks full

Everybody goes their own way
Every family must move on
We’ve been gone for 20 years now
And it still feels wrong

And the breezeblock fence that Dad built
Wants a decent lick of paint
Like the mural on the shed door
And the rusty wrought iron gate

And the suburb I grew up in
Ain’t the same place anymore
And the suburb I grew up in
Is looking worn
It’s the suburb I grew up in
And nothing more
